Early Influences Shaping My Leadership Foundation
DR. BOAKYE
5 MIN READ

Leadership is rarely learned overnight; it’s a journey shaped by early influences, key relationships, and formative experiences. Reflecting on my leadership foundation, I realize that much of what I know and practice today is built on the lessons from those early days.
Looking back on my journey, I’ve understood that effective leadership doesn’t start in the boardroom or on a big stage; it begins with the values, experiences, and connections we establish long before we even recognize ourselves as leaders. Those seemingly small moments, decisions, and encounters lay the groundwork for how we approach leadership when bigger responsibilities arise.
Family Roots and Values
The values we hold dear often originate from our upbringing. In my own experience, principles like resilience, integrity, and service became the bedrock of my approach to life and leadership. Early on, I learned that leadership is not about exercising power but about serving those who rely on you, whether it’s family, colleagues, or an entire organization.
Mentors and Role Models
No leader walks alone; we all benefit from the wisdom, guidance, and support of those who have walked the path before us. Throughout my journey, I’ve been fortunate to have mentors who demonstrated that leadership is not a one-size-fits-all skill but a dynamic process that requires empathy, humility, and a commitment to continuous growth.
Lessons Learned
Leadership is about continuous learning. Leaders who focus on building others up ultimately achieve more success and create more impact than those who lead with control or fear. True leadership is not about being at the center; it’s about creating opportunities for others to lead and excel.
